Deep! Since 1972, King's Way has welcomed students from many parts of the United States, Canada and other nations. They have come from many different denominational and ethnic backgrounds. In an atmosphere of acceptance, they are taught by the excellent academic staff of King's Way, which is primarily composed of veteran missionaries dedicated to imparting their expertise to those who are called to minister in Latin America or other Spanish-speaking nations. What a joy it is to see these same students preaching the gospel in Spanish throughout the world! The training and experience that students receive here at King's Way equips them to pursue their callings on the mission field. We at King's Way have a passionate desire to see missionaries succeed in their efforts to fulfill the mandate given in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) by Jesus nearly 2000 years ago. The curriculum and the specialized training offered at King's Way will assist them in accomplishing that goal. |
| A Brief History |
In
March of 1972, eleven missionary couples from various geographical and denominational
backgrounds who had worked as missionaries in Latin America, met in the home of
Don and Opal Russell in Pharr, Texas. Their purpose was to discuss the possibility
of starting a Full Gospel language school to teach missionaries to speak Spanish.
God had already spoken to some of them, and in that meeting, He birthed in them
a vision to establish a school.About a month later, these missionaries met again to finalize their plans and to elect officers. They chose to name their new school, The King's Way Missionary Institute. They also elected their first officers: Don Russell, President; William Arensman, Vice-President; Harry Johnson, Treasurer; and Barbara Johnson, Secretary.
When they began the school, the question was asked, "Where are we going to get students?" Although at that time, no one knew the answer to that question, God had a plan for King's Way. With no advertisement other than word of mouth, the opening date was set for the third of September, 1972. The first class began with 14 missionaries from various states, including one couple from Canada. No one knows for sure how they heard about this new school, but King's Way was off to a good start. Thirteen students graduated in that first class. From the beginning, we took as our motto the following statement made by missionary Hudson Taylor: "God's work--done God's way, shall not lack God's supply." Over the years, we have seen God faithfully meet every need. There have been many changes made through the years. Property has been added and new buildings have been erected. Today our greatest need is more apartments to house students. Costs of tuition, room and board, and apartment rentals are kept at a bare minimum. The staff do not receive salaries but a weekly missionary offering as the Lord provides.
We have received tremendous reports of significant accomplishments made by our graduates in the field. These wonderful testimonies of the miracle of salvation, healing and deliverance are living proof of God's favor and continued blessing on the ministry of King's Way. Our staff and friends who help support King's Way have a part in every victory experienced by these missionaries. Today King's Way -- now called King's Way Language & Missions Training Center continues to be an important link in mobilizing missionaries to fulfill the Great Commission. Send
